Northern Michigan is already home to an incredible amount of innovation, building solutions that have relevance far beyond our region. 

The 20Fathoms Innovation Fund is accelerating that innovative momentum by adding an additional $50,000 investment to the winner of each of the four regional PitchMI competitions held over the past month, backing founders building scalable companies.

20Fathoms is also investing in fresh ideas for freshwater sustainability. Their
BlueTech Showcase, the culmination of the Northern Michigan BlueTech Accelerator program, featured eight innovative companies pitching ideas from water leak prevention to irrigation optimization and more. These businesses are leading the freshwater industry by providing safer, cost-effective, faster ways to operate and improve the environment.

Following the success of Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks Awareness Month events in May to connect more people with healthy food options, the nonprofit added more events in August to keep the momentum going.

Several outlets, including the Metro Times, Michigan Advance, WLNS 6 News, WKAR Public Radio, and Argus-Press covered the community benefit events.

Our friends at 20Fathoms welcomed a new Executive Director and announced a new program this month! 

Learn more about veteran entrepreneur Stacey Feeley’s experience and her vision for the organization.

Stacey joins the organization at a pivotal time, as the nonprofit leans into blue tech innovation. The Northern Michigan BlueTech Accelerator, powered by gener8tor and 20Fathoms, is a seven-week program for early-stage freshwater and blue technology startups. Founders receive structured curriculum, one-on-one coaching, and access to mentors, investors, and customers. The program kicks off in person in Traverse City in late August, with a Demo Day scheduled for October 22 where all participants will pitch to regional investors and partners.

#TeamMoonsail loved collaborating with PATO to refine the startup’s brand narrative, key messaging, and marketing assets, including digital ads, social media posts, and even sourcing the cutest rubber duck giveaway item (a must to reflect the brand's logo!).

As a mission-aligned firm, we support the many ways people can put their unique stamp on the world to make it a better place, and it's been inspiring to help founder Lissy Torres prepare to launch her passion for using games to help teams learn and improve their soft skills.

Our friends at LAN are celebrating a century of LANdings! 

To mark this momentous milestone, #TeamMoonsail developed a special anniversary logo to honor the legacy of flight and future innovations in flying, as well as designing and coordinating an entire catalogue of commemorative promotional items, from T-shirts and wristbands to coins and baseballs.

Congrats to our friends at Kidango, who recently beautified their Ravenswood campus, their first child care center in San Mateo County, California, that will serve 300 children ages 0 to 5 once it opens.

As part of a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service event, Kidango staff planted trees to create a greener, healthier space for children to grow.

“When we nurture children with care, dignity, and love, we change the world,” said Scott Moore, CEO of Kidango. “These trees that we plant today, as they take root in the soil, represent all of our commitment to a better world.”

Learn more about the “green gap” — a lower percentage of tree coverage in lower-income areas compared to more affluent neighboring communities — and why centering “tree equity” at a child care center supports a healthier start to life.

The Michigan Lakes and Streams Association (MLSA) is sporting a new visual identity that reflects their commitment to protecting Michigan’s inland waters for future generations!

#TeamMoonsail was thrilled to collaborate with this nonprofit to create a brand they’re proud to show off.

The layered shapes within the logo symbolize MLSA uniting forces to support, protect, and educate on the state’s beloved waterways. The vibrant colors convey the orange shades of a sunset sky over a lake — a symbol of community togetherness and shared appreciation for our beloved state. The lighter blue tone representing rivers and the darker blue tone representing lakes convey a sense of clean freshwater and tranquil waves touching the green land that embraces the waterways.

Impact stories are some of our favorite ones to tell. #TeamMoonsail recently helped the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) show how its economic development efforts and investment of $113M last year are helping the Tri-County Region to #LEAPforward. Check out LEAP’s 2023 Annual Report, Take the LEAP with Us, to learn more about attracting and expanding businesses, supporting small businesses and diverse entrepreneurs, strengthening the region’s child care network, and more.

In addition to unveiling the report this month, LEAP also launched its inaugural cohort of Ascend, the first-of-its-kind Hispanic/Latino business accelerator in the Lansing area, and its third cohort of Elevate, a Black business accelerator program.
